White Knight Reviews

The album gets a Grade C from the AV Club  who describe it as Todd Rundgren gets stuck in the ’80s with some famous friends. American Songwriter rates in two and half out of five and concludes ' once you warm up to the concept, there are enough moments on the eclectic smorgasbord to keep most fans engaged.' RollingStone goes for three stars and calls it predictably odd and comments that ' Inconsistency is like a muse here.'

Todd latest gets a 6.6 from Pitchfork

Pitchfork is first out of the gates with a White Knight review concluding " a testament to his individuality in an industry that demands artists choose a lane and stay in it. Either way, it’s classic Rundgren: weird, charming, and dotted with his favorite kind of jokes—the kind that only he’s in on."

The Colloration Danger Zone with Kenny Loggins

"I flew all the way to Hawaii one time to write with Todd Rundgren and he had warned me that he wasn't much of a collaborator and he was right. We spent all day together and he never once sat down at the piano to try and collaborate. But we had a great time. We got nothing from it except that it was a great trip to Hawaii." - Kenny Loggins on trying to collaborate with Todd  [The Biloxi Sun Herald (Mississippi) 7 March 2017 ]

Todd version 2017

So another year begins and what do we have to look forward to in 2017 from Mr Rundgren? Well two major things: The Autobiography (first half 2017) New Album (first half 2017) The Autobiography has been in the works for a couple of decades, so it is good to know that it is almost a reality. As for the new album I'm expected a move away from the style of the last two albums and a return to a more soul / band feel, though I could be wrong.

Teenage album lists

"Once upon a time, you would read about bands before you would hear them. You would then imagine what they sounded like. Sometimes, an artist would pretty much sound just like you thought they would-The Troggs are a good example. Other times, you were left thinking, wait, this is what they were getting so excited about? Todd Rundgren, for instance, is infinitely better described than heard." - Tim Sommer – " Your Facebook Teenage '10 Albums' Lists Matter More Than You Think" [New York Observer, 17 jan , 2017]

Childish Gambino back with a 70's infused album

Boston Globe has an article (A must-see Donald Glover experience – 11 December) on Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino's latest album, "Awaken My Love!" The paper describes it as is a "throwback tour de force to the funk 'n' soul sounds of the 1970s. To be precise, the thing plays like it's August 1974 on your midnight radio. There are elements of Philly Soul, Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy Collins, Rick James, and Rare Earth; echoes of Stevie Wonder and Kiss, smatterings of Todd Rundgren and even Frank Zappa (the George Duke era); look-aheads to Prince on the horizon. I'm just scratching the surface here."
